Introducing the Use of Biomass Amenities
As an environmentally friendly initiative and in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Resource Recycling Related to Plastics (hereinafter referred to as the Plastic Resource Recycling Act) that will come into effect on April 1, 2022, the company's hotel chain, Oriental Hotels & Resorts, will change to using biomass (made from rice waste) amenities such as toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and razors in order to focus on lessening disposable plastic amenities.
We are also working on environmental protection in our guest rooms by using canned mineral water, "WATER FROM OKINAWA," which contributes to the reduction of microplastics and donates a part of the proceeds to coral protection activities. In addition, the hotel has introduced the "Amenity Base," which is being introduced throughout our hotel chain. The Amenity Base allows guests to take only the amenities they will use in a self-service manner which will further reduce the amount of waste.
Converting Disposable Plastic Amenities to Biomass
About Biomass Amenities (*)
Biomass amenities are amenities that use less plastic by blending bio-derived resources such as non-edible rice waste and crushed rice. This can also contribute to the reduction of domestic rice that is discarded every year. In addition, more than half of the packaging materials are made from paper.
